Foodbank   Every Saturday afternoon 1.30-5pm
food_bank_2_vol_opps_276

If you can spare a Saturday afternoon every so often you can make a difference so easily by volunteering at our Foodbank which is a vital & needed resource for local people in financial crisis.
Volunteer shift begins at 1.30pm with a nice cup of tea & setting up.
Doors open between 2-5pm.
Front of house roles include
making (more!) tea, meeting & greeting & chatting to people coming to collect food.
Backstage there is stacking, sorting the goods into date order and organising items into food packs.
(You never know you might discover like new volunteer Libby that getting your tins in a row can be strangely satisfying! Libby was there the day we opened to see how she liked it & within two weeks was rivetted to the food cupboards organising spontaneous stock-takes!)
We organise regular foodbank volunteer briefings; so if you are interested in finding out more and/ or joining the team just email us info@loveworks.org.uk

Happy Mondays Team   Every Monday morning 9-10.30am
happy_monday_276_04
Every Monday morning our pinnie team can be seen delivering coffees out to the shopkeepers working in central Reigate every Monday.

Your role would be to deliver the best coffees in town from Urban Kitchen and our latest newsletters out to shop keepers and office-workers who have made an order that week.
Then we all have a well-deserved coffee & sit down at the end!

Volunteer by email  info@loveworks.org.uk

Monday Mornings 8am-10am

 Commuter Coffees Team

One Monday a month 7.00-8.45am

mayor_on_station_nov_11_276

You wouldn’t necessarily think it from the start time below but this is an incredibly fun thing to do. We appear on Reigate Station platform every month with newsletters, hot coffee and cheery smiles come rain come shine as a way of getting to know the community.

Your role would be to help set up and clear away, pour coffee, hand out the latest news and explain the charity to interested commuters.

You would be amazed at the amount of people we bump into later on who tell us the differecne it makes to their morning & every year some of them come forward to volunteer. So just pouring a coffee for someone can help make a difference !

(NB Mayor and Santa make seasonal appearances only!!)

The Cuppa Tea Club   Last Thursday of every month 12.00-3.30pm
cuppa_tea_club_vol_opps_276

We were hearing how much the closure of the Redhill Centre had affected the ladies & gents of Age Concern when we saw them on the Pampering afternoon & we we keen to help.

Thanks to the kindness of the Arkle Manor and lovely volunteers we were able to begin to offer a monthly session for these fabulous people, most of whom are in their 80's & 90's & all of whom struggle to leave the house without aid from the specialist minibus.

You can be one of the volunteers who puts happy smiles like these on people's faces.  All you need is a kind heart, a listening ear & the ability to pass the sarnies round !

Volunteer roles available ...
 1) Shopping for the "high tea" each month
 2) Prepping the food from 10.30-12.15
 3) Being there 12.30 - 3.30 to help it go with a swing.
Email us on info@loveworks.org.uk  to join this happy team.

Project : Dress for Success   April & May

We will be spending time with people who are seeking work but do not have the finances to afford an interview outfit & providing styling advise before organising for a be-spoke outfit to be donated by employees in local organisations.
Thanks so much to Just Retirement & Esure for showing initial support for this project. We are also hoping to provide guidance on interview technique to provide a real support package for those keen to find work but struggling to find the means to make it happen.

Every Month : Helpers for Projects for Homeless Teens Projects
sunday_special_276   Having worked with the teenagers who live at Wayside Hostel in Reigate for 3 years we have reached a stage where both the Wayside Management & the girls themselves would like Loveworks.org to run a monthly project with them.

In true Loveworks style this will be a bespoke event each time, which meets the needs of the girls and decisions re content will be reached through consultation with them.

However a regular feature of the Sunday Special will be refreshments as requested by the girls.

Would you like to be a shopper for the requested items?

mentoring_276                             ***Currently in research & development***

If you are interested in the very committed and very rewarding volunteer role of being a mentor to a young person in need then email us on info@loveworks.org.uk and we will provide further details when we are preparing to launch the programme.

The more interest from volunteers for this project the morely likely we are to get it off the ground.
Thank you so much to those of you who have already put your names down as potential mentors. Karen H, Lucy, Ann-Marie, Stuart, Karen N & Dave to name but a few.
We will be in touch as soon as we can make this project a reality.

Autumn & Xmas Projects

Breakfast with Santa : Tea & Treats Project for women & children in local refuge : December
pamper12_vol_opps_276

We are currently planning a Christmas project for the women & children @ the local refuge for victims of domestic abuse.
Breakfast, Christmas crafts & storytime with Santa are very likely to feature.
If you would like to be involved in the shopping & gift-wrapping for this project please get in touch.

Pictured here is the lovely beautician & LW volunteer Di Cundell who gives her time for free & is pictured right with Patsy on last years Elderly Pampering Project.
We are hoping she will join us at the refuge to add a lovely treat for the Mums whilst the kids are entertained by Santa.

Card-Making Course for Isolated Elderly Project : November
 card12_vol_opps_276_01
Last year eleven of the ladies of Age Concern Merstham (and Jack!) signed up for this course & enjoyed assembling the craftily designed cards of Carol Cockbain which, with a little bit of cutting, sticking & glueing hey presto turned into a very impressive finshed product each & every time.

These special hand-made creations will be sent off to family near & far in time for Christmas.

Thank you to Carol, Veronica, Laura, Naomi & Carol Cockbain for kindly volunteering for this project & giving our card-makers a helping hand & a listening ear.

Bauble Wrap Night    Monday 25th November 2013
bauble_wrap_276_01

Be part of Bauble Wrap this year !
The most Christmassy evening you could possibly imagine at a gorgeous venue & all in a great cause : what's not to like !!
Pictured here are Veronica, Clare, Andrea & Amelia who were on "bauble station" at the Arkle Manor in 2012 helping to put the loving touches to our Christmas bags

Just out of shot are Lyn & Linda on cellophane duty-getting the gliding action going!

Meanwhile on Christmas Bags station were Cora, Emma, Jackie, Georgina, Mike, Anuska & Myra adding the labels and tassles to those lovely bags.

Lots of chat, drinks on the house and home-made choc-mint macaroons provided by Amelia  - what a great way to spend an evening!

Christmas Wreath-Making & Selling **NEW**

Having seen what can be done to make beautiful luxurious Christmas wreathes we are keen to get arty-crafty and have a go.

We are currently putting together a plan for next year where volunteers can come along to the office where we will have the wreath frames at the ready & all other necessary bits such as ribbon & baubles to make some lovely Christmas wreathes which will then be sold to the public in the run up to the Christmas season next year.

To put your names down now email info@loveworks.org.uk

Local Santa    Sunday in November tbc 2013
bags_12_276

This wonderful, heart-warming project has become something of a Loveworks institution over the years. Each gift tag on our tree in the Belfry on Local Santa Day represents a local child whose Christmas wish had already been established from a personal visit to the temporary & refuge accommodation where they live.

If you fancy being one of the volunteers who asks the passing shoppers to get involved & buy a gift or being one of the gift-wrappers on the day then we would love to have you.

Thanks so much to everyone who came along to the Belfry, Redhill & took part last year. You helped to make a local child in need's wish come true!
A big thank you also to Karen & Carolanne for project coordinating the day, to Lyn and Emma for wrapping the presents so beautifully and to Rosie, Robyn and Emeline for asking members of the public to take part.
Always gets our Christmas spirit flowing right to our tippy toes this one!

December

Christmas Bag Scheme   Saturday 7th December 2013
bags_12_vol_opps_276

Thanks to the generosity of countless M&S shoppers we are able to gather together goods to fill 155 Christmas Bags fulfilling all the agency requests that had been made last year.
The bags went out to local people & families who will all struggle to afford Christmas this year.
And of course a thousand thank yous to our fantastic volunteers without who this project would have happened.

So if you would like to help out this year either on the door at Marks & Spencer or in what we call the sort zone afterwards then please do drop us an email & we will sort a slot out for you.
