What a weekend we had at the EAT Food Fest in Reigate. Despite the weather, the event proved a success for the charity as it was the perfect platform to shout about a proposed new project to one day run a community cafe in Merstham. The plan is that we provide meals for people living in food crisis, but also provide an environment to support people to live free from the cycle of food poverty.
There was something for everyone at the Loveworks stand. Kids were entertained by a choose your own fruit to pedal power your own smoothie; create your own animals with fruit & veg and more. There was also an opportunity for kids to use their senses to discover fruit & vegetables with blind tasters, brown apples and squidgy bananas. Whilst the kids were entertained, our volunteers took time out to talk to people about the project and encourage people to get involved. We asked for a small donation towards some take home produce provided by local allotment owners.
On Sunday, we were fortunate enough to work with the National Citizenship Student Challenge (NCS), a government funded initiative working with fifteen 16 year olds who were incredible ambassadors representing the charity for the day, they even took over our social media twitter account!
