You may remember back in June, we sent out an appeal for help to find new premises? Sadly, we weren’t immediately successful and it was a tense few months. But great news, we have just moved into a PERMANENT premises which has a fantastic warehouse to receive and store donations and ample space in which to pack food bank parcels.
It’s early days and we’re still unpacking, cleaning and smartening the place up but now we can start to plan and put our new strategy in place (the trustees were busy working on this prior to lockdown – more about that in the coming months).
This new warehouse is essential as throughout lockdown we faced a number of challenges including an increasing number of referrals (see monthly parcel figures below) and the closure of some of our food bank sites.
On the plus side, the partnerships we’ve formed with other foodbanks in the area such as St Matthews, Horley, Welcare and RHT have been amazing. Also, the support we have received from the local community and Reigate and Banstead Council has been invaluable.
As you can imagine, new premises don’t come cheap, so we’ve got our eye on grants for further financial support. Also, we cannot forget the generous donors who have enabled us to realise this dream of a new home and a new chapter for the Charity.
Over the next few weeks, we will be cleaning, kitting out and setting up our new space and soon we’ll have news of our launch – although sadly it’s unlikely that we can throw a party, that will have to wait!
For now, do look out for our updates. There may be some requests for help to get us on our feet as quickly as possible – that way we can set up a new donations point, welcome new volunteers and respond effortlessly to any increase in demand.
Here’s to the future and continuing to improve the lives of our local community through food
