UPDATE DUE TO COVID-19 CRISIS
Our food banks are working hard in the current crisis to provide a home delivery food bank service for people needing support in RH2 (Reigate) and RH1 3 (Mertsham). Please note we are not currently running food banks at the normal venues or times.
Anyone can face hard times. Anyone can struggle to make ends meet. Our food banks provide emergency help to those in crisis and are for local people in need.
They are manned by local volunteers, willing to participate and put something back into their communities. It’s simple. We are looking to assist individuals and families in our community who have, for whatever reason, temporarily found themselves unable to afford food.
Our food banks are intended for those experiencing a temporary financial crisis and, unlike the traditional “soup kitchen” model which offers indefinite provision to any individual who presents themselves, we provide three days’ worth of non-perishable food items in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of the individual and their family for up to six weeks. Food is provided in exchange for a referral voucher which will have been issued by one of our partner agencies.
Our locations (NOT CURRENTLY OPEN DURING COVID-19 CRISIS)
Loveworks are able to offer the following food banks in the community each week:
The Reigate Baptist Church, Sycamore Walk, Reigate RH2 7LR
Open every Monday evening from 6.15 pm – 7.45 pm.
The Merstham Mix Community Café, Portland Drive, Merstham, RH1 3HY
Orders only – Please ask a food bank agency to place an order on your behalf
Wednesday 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm / Saturday 2.30 pm – 4.00 pm
Who can issue vouchers for use at our food banks?
We feel that an agency or organisation who is in direct contact with those in need are the people best placed to make the judgment call as to whether or not an individual qualifies for assistance from a Loveworks Food Bank.
From our point of view, anyone arriving at one of our food banks with a referral voucher is eligible to receive food. However, the food banks are not intended to fulfil an on-going need. The system has been designed so as not to create dependency and provides only short-term, temporary assistance, currently set at six weeks or six vouchers, after which agency partners should contact us to discuss further need.
How can you get involved?
- By signing up as one of our partner agencies / organisations, you will be provided with a number of vouchers which you will be free to issue to those you consider to be in need.
- Alternatively you can get involved by donating food items. We do have guidelines on what to donate, for example we could have a specific need for a particular type of food. We want to provide the best quality food items possible for our voucher holders.
- If you want to volunteer your time to help out at one of the food banks we would love to speak to you too.
To get involved please call us on 07912 628 013 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
